HTH Receives a Donation to Promote Family Planning

Feb 4, 2014

On July 2nd, a large truck pulled up to Hope Through Health’s and AED-Lidaw’s Kara clinic. Inside was a donation of family planning-related equipment and supplies: an examination table, scales, stethoscopes, exam lamps, and methods of birth control, among other materials. Our staff estimated the gift to be worth $4,000 USD. Thanks to funding from the Togolese Ministry of Health and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), this hugely generous donation will help HTH/AED integrate essential family planning into our HIV/AIDS services.

Preventing unintended pregnancies is critical to reduce maternal mortality and to improve child survival for all women, regardless of HIV status. Ensuring that pregnancies are planned provides an additional benefit for women living with HIV who want to become pregnant, as planning allows for optimal timing of when to become pregnant as well as appropriate initiation of medication prior to pregnancy to prevent the transmission of HIV to HIV-negative partners and to infants. HTH and AED-Lidaw are extremely grateful to the MOH and the UNFPA for their ongoing support.
