Today, Integrate Health and Last Mile Health are proud to announce the launch of the Framework for Action: Achieving Gender Equity in the Community Health Workforce. This groundbreaking guide features 16 actionable recommendations designed to address the gender-specific challenges faced by women community health workers throughout their careers.
Women make up an astounding 70% of the community health workforce and are critical to delivering life-saving care globally. Yet, they face numerous obstacles, from safety concerns and low wages to limited career opportunities. This new framework offers concrete steps for policy-makers and implementers to recruit, enable, and retain women community health workers and create gender-responsive health systems for all.
The framework was developed using insights from global guidelines, thorough research, and input from seasoned community health leaders, including community health workers. It calls upon program implementers, governments, funders, advocacy groups, researchers, and community health workers themselves to engage in coordinated action. Gender equity is not a nice to have, but a requisite to achieving health equity for all.
