At the Millennium Summit in 2000, the United Nations laid out the framework of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which consist of eight goals designed to foster international development by combating global poverty and disease, improving life expectancy and maternal and child health, and promoting gender equality and environmental sustainability. The UN recently published a 15-year review of the progress made towards its goals, which was deemed a profound success.
Despite the initiative’s overall success, inequalities in progress and development still remain. Not every country globally has enjoyed a universal, upward rate of development; gaps and unevenness persist over certain countries and regions. Togo is one of the nations that has failed to meet the criteria of the Millennium Development Goals. But meeting these goals is not out of Togo’s reach.
Hope Through Health, and our partners, local organization AED-Lidaw, and the Ministry of Health, are working to strengthen the healthcare system in Togo, with the ultimate goal of improving health outcomes in this underserved nation. We encourage you to keep reading our blog to learn more about our work!
