Afoua is the daughter and granddaughter of farmers. She grew up in Tchèki, a neighboring village to Pangouda (Kéran district). Because of lack of financial resources, the young mother dropped out of school in 2015 at the secondary level. She was 16 years old. Attracted by the mirages of Nigeria, she immigrated to this country where she hoped to have better living conditions. But she was disillusioned. In 2018, Afoua decided to take control of her life by returning to Togo. Back in her village, she began learning to sew. Shortly after, she married a man from Pangouda. The couple settled there and made a living from farming. In 2020, the integrated primary health care program arrived in Pangouda. Afoua, who met the selection criteria, saw an opportunity to become a Community Health Worker (CHW). The idea of being able to provide first-level care appealed to her. She applied and was accepted for training. For Afoua, being a CHW is a privilege. In addition to being paid monthly, she can care for her own children and those of her community.
