When Mariyama was given the opportunity to become a Community Health Worker, she didn’t hesitate to join IH’s mission to improve the health status of her community. She has seen many changes in Sarakawa since IH partnered with the community, including a greater knowledge base among mothers, who now receive regular pre- and post-natal visits and promptly seek out care for their sick children, significantly reducing preventable deaths in her community. Positive changes in her community, families, and children give her pride and inspire her to persevere in her role as community health worker. Mariyama looks forward to helping IH expand its mission and give hope and health to more communities across Togo.
