As the school year comes to an end, Hope Through Health wishes to thank the students, staff and faculty of the East Harlem School (EHS) for all their support!
Hope Through Health is fortunate to work out of a beautiful office space located in the East Harlem School, a progressive independent school in Manhattan.
After learning about Hope Through Health from Executive Director Jenny Schechter, a group of motivated eighth grade girls founded the Hope Through Health Club at the East Harlem School. The club, which has grown to about fifteen boys and girls, meets every Tuesday. Club meetings started as mini-presentations by students about different aspects of Togolese culture. But as the club’s experience grew, the students decided to help more directly and set out to raise money and awareness. Through a combination of passion and hard work, the HTH Club at EHS held two fundraisers that raised over $800 this year, allowing three children in Togo to receive medical care for an entire year. The club held a school-wide coin drive and ended the year with a fantastic talent show. The East Harlem School’s Got Talent held on Friday, June 7th, was a huge success. Acts from the fourth through eighth graders included singing, dancing, a comedic monologue, and an original sonnet. The HTH Club members who emceed the show shared important highlights about Togo with the audience. The show was followed by a HTH bake sale, complete with homemade Oreo cookies baked by the school’s very own Chef Jonah (a perfect end to the day!)
Hope Through Health is proud to have a Hope Through Health Club at the East Harlem School. We will miss the founding club members and we wish them the best of luck in their new schools!
