50four50 project

Apr 16, 2014

Hope Through Health is thrilled to be this month’s featured organization in the 50four50 project, an inspiring example of a community gathering together to make a difference. Australian Ric Todhunter decided to celebrate his 50th birthday in a unique way – by getting 50 people to commit to supporting 50 projects that improve the lives of others. That is 50 people for 50 projects, with one featured project per month. The “four” of the project name comes from the timeframe of Ric’s idea, 50 months, or roughly 4 years. Each month, Ric chooses a project to support – ranging from international to local community aid to individuals in need.

Since 50four50 began in July 2011, the movement has raised $86,160 for 32 different projects, averaging over $2600 per project. Past featured organizations include One Day’s Wages and One Acre Fund. In addition to donating money, the 50four50 project has created a community of like-minded people through features like funny monthly member profiles. The site’s Investment page asks that members dedicate their time, emotion, and if possible, their money to the 50four50 movement. This 3-pillared approach asks donors to become involved beyond their financial gifts and truly understand the important work each organization is doing.

Ric’s approach mirrors Hope Through Health’s foundation, a large group of grassroots supporters dedicated to improving health and lives in Togo, a place they likely have never visited, and as Ric admits, may not have even known existed. Hope Through Health is honored to be organization #33 in this movement to better the world. Thank you Ric Todhunter, 50four50 supporters, and all of Hope Through Health’s grassroots supporters, for your commitment to improving health and inspiring hope!
