Article 25: The Right to Health

Oct 29, 2014

Over 65 years ago, the UN passed Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that health is a human right. Unfortunately, this is not a reality. Global inequities and systems of discrimination prevent people from accessing and receiving high quality healthcare, leading to deaths and poor health outcomes worldwide. The US-based organization Article 25 is catalyzing a global movement to urge leaders to include rights-based universal health coverage in the post-2015 development goals.

On Saturday, October 25 our partner organization in Togo, AED-Lidaw, celebrated Article 25’s Global Day of Action. AED-Lidaw and other NGOs hosted a demonstration in front of the regional hospital in Kara to advocate for rights-based universal health coverage in Togo. Over 15,000 people participated in 165 events in 65 countries to support in Article 25. HTH/AED-Lidaw believe strongly in health as a human right and are honored to be part of this global movement. We encourage you to learn more about Article 25 here.
